The cause of an autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto's disease is often due to disruption of the endorphin system, the NMDA receptor and a leaky gut. We often see patients develop other autoimmune diseases as well and thyroid antibodies are found first. In addition to autoimmune disease, chronic stress and trauma can also cause improper conversion of thyroid hormone. The latter are often overlooked. BeterKliniek's treatments therefore focus on the cause of the autoimmune disease.

What is Hashimoto's disease:

Hashimoto's disease (hashimoto-thyroiditis) is a chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland, in which your thyroid gland works too slowly (hypothyroidism) or sometimes not at all. As a result, your body makes too little thyroid hormone or none at all.The thyroid gland is located at the front of your neck, directly above the dimple in your neck. Your thyroid gland makes thyroid hormones and releases them into the blood. Through the blood, those hormones are transported to all your cells and organs. These hormones give your cells and organs enough energy to do their work properly.

Cause of Hashimoto's disease:

Hashimoto's disease is an autoimmune disease. This means that your immune system attacks your own cells (body's own cells). In this case, your thyroid cells are attacked, causing chronic inflammation in your thyroid gland. As a result, these cells break down, your thyroid gradually slows down and less and less thyroid hormone is produced. It is not clear why the immune system turns against your thyroid cells. However, it is known that it is more common in people with a certain hereditary predisposition and other autoimmune diseases in the family. The disease is also more common in women than men and especially in women between the ages of 30 and 50.

Symptoms of Hashimoto's disease:

Because of thyroid hormone deficiency, a number of processes in your body work a little slower. As a result, you may have the following symptoms:

  • Being cold.
  • Being tired quickly.
  • Dry and thicker skin.
  • Slow bowel movements (constipation).
  • Hair loss.
  • Weight gain
  • Decline in your hearing.
  • Pain and cramps in your muscles.
  • Tingling in your fingers and hands.

Hashimoto's disease can also cause mental disorders.Usually the function of your thyroid gland deteriorates so slowly that you don't notice it for a long time.

Treatment BeterKlinic

BeterKliniek is the clinic for Integrative Medicine that bridges regular and non-regular medicine.

An van Veen (physician) and Michael van Gils (therapist) look for the cause of a condition or disease. That is where the treatment starts otherwise, as people often say, it is 'carrying water to the sea'. We call this cause medicine. Sometimes it is also desirable to treat the symptoms (at the same time). We call this symptom medicine.

Chronic disorders often have their cause in epi- genetics. You can schedule a free informative telephone consultation (phone number 040-7117337 until 1 p.m.) at BeterKliniek to discuss your symptoms so that we can provide you with further advice.
