Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic pain syndrome consisting of general muscle pain and muscle stiffness. These symptoms may be accompanied by (sometimes extreme) fatigue, sleep disturbances, headaches, anxiety, depression, allergies, concentration and memory problems, temperature elevations and intestinal complaints. The symptoms often fluctuate. This means that more symptoms may be experienced one day than the next.

This condition is particularly common in women between the ages of 20 and 60.

Fibromyalgia (FM), also called soft tissue rheumatism, literally means pain in connective tissue and muscles.

No single cause has yet been found for this syndrome.

Considering the usually healthy appearance of a fibromyalgia patient and the normal findings on regular blood tests, this often leads to denial of this syndrome by family doctor, specialist, company doctor, employer and, not least, lack of understanding in one's own environment.

There is no medication to cure the condition. However, symptoms can be reduced with painkillers and by alternating exercise and rest.

Treatment BeterKlinic

BeterKliniek is the clinic for Integrative Medicine that bridges regular and non-regular medicine.

An van Veen (physician) and Michael van Gils (therapist) look for the cause of a condition or disease. That is where the treatment starts otherwise, as people often say, it is 'carrying water to the sea'. We call this cause medicine. Sometimes it is also desirable to treat the symptoms (at the same time). We call this symptom medicine.

Chronic disorders often have their cause in epi- genetics. You can schedule a free informative telephone consultation (phone number 040-7117337 until 1 p.m.) at BeterKliniek to discuss your symptoms so that we can provide you with further advice.
