The airways are the passageway for air between the outside world and the tiny alveoli in the lungs. In the alveoli, oxygen is absorbed into the blood and carbon dioxide (a waste) is released.

The airways are divided into "upper" and "lower" airways. The upper airways consist of nose, throat, sinuses, middle ear, vocal cords and trachea. The lower airways consist of the large and smaller airways (bronchi), lung tissue and alveoli.

Respiratory infections are very common, especially upper respiratory tract infections. Smokers are more likely to have respiratory infections and often have symptoms for longer than non-smokers.

Upper respiratory tract infections are usually caused by viruses and do not require treatment. They include the common cold, sore throat, cough, middle ear infection and sinusitis.

Treatment BeterKlinic

BeterKliniek is the clinic for Integrative Medicine that bridges regular and non-regular medicine.

An van Veen (physician) and Michael van Gils (therapist) look for the cause of a condition or disease. That is where the treatment starts otherwise, as people often say, it is 'carrying water to the sea'. We call this cause medicine. Sometimes it is also desirable to treat the symptoms (at the same time). We call this symptom medicine.

Chronic disorders often have their cause in epi- genetics. You can schedule a free informative telephone consultation (phone number 040-7117337 until 1 p.m.) at BeterKliniek to discuss your symptoms so that we can provide you with further advice.
